In November 2006, Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA), the first woman to chair the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, named Bettina Poirier the first woman to serve as its Staff Director and Chief Counsel.  Poirier served as a Legislative Assistant to Senator Boxer for environmental and agricultural issues from 2001 through 2002, and as Senior Counsel for Boxer from 2005 to 2007.  She served as Minority Counsel to the House Energy and Commerce Committee under Rep. John Dingell (D-MI) from 2003 to 2005.  A graduate of Barnard College, Columbia University and NYU Law School, she was an environmental associate at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom.  She was Deputy Assistant General Counsel for Pollution Control in the U.S. Department of Agriculture during the Clinton Administration.

Metro: From the Waterfront station on the Green Line, walk west on M/Maine Street, then cross the median to the Channel Inn.  From USDOT, the Green Line leaves the Navy Yard Metro at 11:24 a.m.
From L'Enfant Plaza take the Green Line at 11:22 a.m. to Waterfront, or walk south on 7th Street to Water Street, or take the 70 bus to 7th and Maine, or take the DC Circulator between the Convention Center and Waterfront.
