Annual Meeting - January 14, 2010
 
The Annual Meeting of the Road Gang was held in the Ambassador Room of the Omni Shoreham Hotel on Thursday, January 14, 2010 during the Transportation Research Board’s Annual Meeting. 
 
Mark Norman, standing in for Bob Skinner, TRB, reported that attendance at the TRB Annual Meeting was up only slightly from 10,100 last year but not as high as 10,500 two years ago.
 
Six new nominees were approved as members.
 
Taylor Bowlden, 3M became the 2010 Chairman and Jeoung Lee was appointed 4th Vice Chair.
 
Pete Rahn, Director, Missouri Department of Transportation discussed “Meeting Our Growing Transportation Challenges In An Era of Reduced Resources.” Pete also received the Lester P. Lamm Award for "public servants exhibiting leadership and dedication to the U.S. Highway Program."
 
Barbara O'Connor accepted the Dan Hanson Award for Neil Gray.
 
Senator George Voinovich will be presented with the P.D. McLean Award, which is awarded annually to an individual who has made a "distinct contribution to the cause of better highway transportation in the public interest." 
 
A cash bar opened at 11:30 a.m., lunch was served at Noon, and the meeting ended by 2:00 p.m. 
 
Your cost was $55.00 per person.  Organizations supported this event by reserving a front row table with table sign for eight (8) at $500.00 per table.  About 160 people joined us or came as a guest for this outstanding event, which is a Washington tradition!
 
Reservations were be accepted until noon on Friday January 8. Prepayment is required.

2008 Annual Meeting
 
The Annual Meeting and Luncheon of the Road Gang was held in the Ambassador Room at the Omni Shoreham Hotel on Thursday, January 17, 2008. 
 
Following the reception and introduction of guests, Robert Skinner (TRB) provided a report on the Transportation Research Board annual meeting.  Chair Janet Oakley introduced keynote speaker John Horsley, Executive Director of AASHTO, who provided a commentary on the work of the National Surface Transportation and Revenue Study Commission.  The keynote address was followed by awards:
  • The P.D. McLean Award was presented by Tony Giancola (NACE) to John Horsley. The plaque is awarded annually to an individual who has made a “distinct contribution to the cause of better highway transportation in the public interest.” 
  •  
    The Lester P. Lamm Memorial Award was presented by Tony Kane (AASHTO) to Bud Wright (FHWA) for “public servants exhibiting leadership and dedication to the U.S. Highway Program”.  
  • The Daniel J. Hanson Award “in commemoration to extraordinary service to the organization" was presented by Janet Oakley to Bernie McCarthy (formerly The Asphalt Institute). 
  • New chair Jill Ingrassia (AAA) thanked outgoing chair Janet Oakley (AASHTO) with a plaque, and new fourth Vice Chair Connie Yew (FHWA) was installed.

 

150 Members and guests were in attendance.  Tables were sponsored by AASHTO, AGC, Cambridge Systematics, and Arthur C. Cameron.  In addition, Doug Bernard brought a number of guests. 

 
Members also received a copy of the long-awaited 2006-2007 Directory.  Any members who did not sign in will receive their directory in the mail.
